The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients. Rover.com is seeking a Data Scientist to lead the design of our next generation user experience testing and machine learning infrastructure. The Rover.com user experience includes desktop and mobile web as well as mobile app; the infrastructure for which the Data Scientist is responsible ranges from simple A/B testing to multi-armed bandit approaches to optimizing long-running experiments with significant impact on how users interact with Rover.com, participate in our marketplace, and find care for their dogs.
The Data Scientist will be proficient with statistical tools such as Saas and R, and well-versed in SQL. At least some experience with other programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python, etc) and big-data tools is preferred. Qualified candidates will have a background in statistics, math, applied math, or a similarly quantitative discipline. An advanced degree is preferred.
Experience working in a marketplace environment is strongly preferred.
The Data Scientist will act as an expert source of best practices in all aspects of experimental design. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in online user testing, and will be well-versed and able to speak to the unique challenges of optimizing user experience in an online/mobile environment, including statistical power requirements, the pros and cons of various approaches to defining control groups, how to isolate the impact of user experience changes from other factors such as geographical effects, and so on.
The Data Scientist will also act as a domain expert across all aspects of machine learning. The ideal candidate will be able to lead the design of our next-generation machine learning infrastructure, and will have demonstrated experience working with such systems in a real-world, online environment.
The person in this role must be comfortable with imperfect data and understand bias but always strive for actionable and clear results. Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to translate learning into clear recommendations to the business, are essential.

Rover.com is seeking a Marketplace Analyst to study our marketplace and help the company understand how to efficiently match supply and demand while delighting customers, both dog owners and dog sitters.
Familiarity with Excel and statistical methods is a must, and expertise with tools (such as Saas and R) are major plus. Expertise with SQL, web analytics tools (such as Google Analytics, KissMetrics and MixPanel) are nice too, but we value smarts more than skills.
The ideal candidate loves to develop hypotheses by talking with customers and internal stakeholders, and then design tests or analyzing data to propose solutions.
B.A or B.S required; 1+ year experience in a quantitative role;
